An iPhone is a significant purchase, and in Pakistan there are a few extra details worth checking before you hand over your money. A little care at the counter can save you from surprises with network access, warranty or battery life later on.
PTA status comes first
Always confirm whether the phone is PTA approved. A PTA-approved iPhone works with local SIM cards without restrictions. Non-approved phones may only work on Wi-Fi after a short period, or require you to pay registration tax yourself. Ask the seller directly and check the IMEI number on the box against the one shown in Settings.
Confirm the exact model and storage
Apple's lineup now includes the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, plus the more affordable iPhone 16e. Names look similar, so confirm the exact model in Settings under General and About. Check that the storage capacity matches what you are paying for.
If you take lots of photos and videos, or plan to keep your phone for several years, choose more storage than you use today. Videos recorded in high quality fill space quickly, and storage cannot be added later.
Sealed, open box or used
Ask whether the device is sealed, open box or previously activated. A sealed phone has never been set up. An open-box unit may have been unpacked for display or testing and is often a good value if it includes a warranty. For any previously used phone, check battery health under Settings and Battery; a figure above 90 percent is a good sign.
Inspect before you pay
Look closely at the display for scratches or dead pixels, test Face ID, try both front and rear cameras, play a video to check the speakers and plug in a charger to confirm charging works. Make sure the phone is signed out of any previous Apple ID so it is not locked to someone else.
Finally, ask what warranty applies and what is included in the box. Recent iPhones ship with a USB-C cable but no charger, so you may want a 20W adapter for fast charging.
